Executive Biography

Dan Heinlen became president/CEO Emeritus of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Inc. in December 2003, after 38 years of service, including 30 as CEO. During his tenure, the Association more than doubled in size and moved debt-free into its $11 million state-of-the-art and fully furnished home, Longaberger Alumni House.

His leadership roles include chair of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), founding vice president and past president of the Council of Alumni Association Executives (CAAE), and others. Heinlen received the CASE Frank L. Ashmore award, as well as the distinguished service award from both Ohio State and CASE 5.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in social administration from The Ohio State University in 1960, he worked for the YMCA of Pittsburgh and served on active duty with the U.S. Army Reserves.

Currently as president of DLH, LLC, Heinlen consults with alumni associations and their business partners throughout North America.
