Executive Biography

John Carter recently concluded his service as president and chief operating officer of the Georgia Tech Foundation after a 14 year tenure. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the policies, programs, and services of the Foundation, and coordinating the Foundation’s activities with Georgia Tech’s Office of the President and the Alumni and Athletic associations. In addition, he provided leadership in the area of donor stewardship and the investment of $1.6 billion in assets, including donated and purchased real estate.

Prior to his current position, Carter served for 16 years as vice president and executive director of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. He also has provided consulting services to North Carolina State Foundations, Clemson University, Iowa State University Alumni Association, Kansas University Alumni Association, University of Georgia Foundation, and University of Virginia Foundation.

Carter is a frequent conference speaker for AGB and CASE, and is a former board member and treasurer for CASE. In 2012, he received the CASE Commonfund Award for outstanding service to the foundation profession.

Carter has a bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
